The cashew is a fruit with a long history although it was not an important tropical plantation until the last century. The first data on the cashew comes from Brazil on account of the Portuguese, Dutch and French discoverers. Currently the main cashew producers are in India, the Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Vietnam and Tanzania, with harvests in both hemispheres.
